in fact, I downloaded the amule 2.2.2 source code, installed
libwxgtk2.8-dev (version 2.8.8.0-0ubuntu2) and libcrypto++-dev, and ran
./configure on the amule source, which comleted successfully. here's the
related part from the config.log:
