yeah, computer would not recognise USB data, but did recognise the NAME of
the USB volume. Funny as it was a USB unetbootin install.
looked up that link below and could not figure out what/where to attach, but
just let you know  I did work around the problem eventually by not using
unetbootin, I used the facility on the cd ubuntu install on computer A to
make a USB install unbuntu, took the USB disk to computer B (which has a
functioning USB drive but not a functioning CD drive), asked the BIOS to
install from USB (careful, there are two choices here, one does not work,
one does) and rebooted and installed.
