I have disabled avahi-daemon (/etc/default/avahi-daemon) since it gives a lot of problems in my network due to security constraints. Also a very strict iptables is in effect - inital install boot (avahi-daemon active, no iptables in effect) gives same result (i.e. MTU size 576). Installation language is set to Swedish if that should have any impact.
