** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: notify-osd 0.8-0ubuntu3
  notification-daemon 0.4-0ubuntu2
  libnotify1 0.4.5-0ubuntu1
  or
  notification-daemon-xfce 0.3.7-1

System: AMD64 Updated Jaunty Xubuntu - compiz + nvidia proprietary
  drivers.

  1. I installed/updated notify-osd, notification-daemon, and libnotify1
  2. I could test and use the new black notifications just fine with
notify-send "test" for about a day
  3. No longer are my notifications working. I have tried reinstalling
libnotify1,notify-osd,notification-daemion as well as uninstalling and
reverting to notification-daemon-xfce.
- 4. If I send notify-send command with no message... terminal complains "No
summary specified." If I provide a message it no longer complains but no
message appears.
+ 4. If I send notify-send command with no message... terminal complains "No
summary specified." If I provide a message it no longer complains but no
message appears.

Result: I no longer have any working notifications. notify-send "test" does
nothing.
Expected Result: Reverting back to notification-daemon-xfce should give back
my old functionality or having notify-osd installed should provide me with my
the new black notification system.

  Answers:
  1. No the functionality is not brought back after a reboot.
  2. killall notify-osd has no effect.
- 3. Using xfwm4 as a window manager does not bring back my notifications.
+ 3. Using xfwm4 as a window manager does not bring back my notifications.
xfwm4 compositor was ticked off
  4. I am running under Xubuntu... I do not know how to check if I am running
under "normal" effects... the Appearance pref menus in Xubuntu does not have an
option for visual effects.

Also - Firefox when all downloads are complete an alert box is showing
rather then the previous behavior of showing a popup notification. I
- assume this is because Firefox is not explicitly checking to see if the
- notification system accepts interactivity and hence notify-osd is
- displaying it as an alert box as a fallback.
+ understand this is because Firefox is not explicitly checking to see if
+ the notification system accepts interactivity and hence notify-osd is
+ displaying it as an alert box as a fallback. I do not understand though
+ this part of functionality is working while the rest is not.
