It is reproducible. No I never had a working hibernate on this installtion.
About the circumstances... I run Ubuntu 9.04 (2.6.28-8.24-generic) in a virtual machine (Sun xVM VirtualBox v. 2.1.4). The virtual machine runs with 384 MB RAM and a 8.00 GB IDE hard drive. The VirtualBox Server is a Windows XP Professional. It happens if I hibernate via Gnome Button for shutdown (don't know if this is a proper description, but I use a German interface, so i have some trouble in translating stuff correctly) If I start after hibernating I get the Ubuntu Splashscreen with a line of text "Waking up. Please wait...". Also I get an error message from VirtualBox.exe: "Virtualbox.exe has a problem and must be shutdown." (The message is longer, but I don't think there is anything more you need to know...) I can send a Bug report to Microsoft... I haven't done this yet. The VirtualBox Client Window closes and I fall back on the VirtualBox Main Window. My Ubuntu 9.04 is marked as interrupted. If I start it again, I get a normal boot, as far as I can see. After Login I get a "!" Icon which tells me that my "[...] system encountered a serious kernel problem". I can report that problem, which brought me here the first time. This looks quiet the same, what I experienced the last times I tried hibernating. So I don't repeated it 10 times. After I hibernated from console via pm-hibernate, I get a different error message from VirtualBox, which says quiet the same like the error message on hibernate with GUI tools, but it tells me, that there are logs and where I can find them. I'll add them, even though they may fit better into the VirtualBox Bug reporting section. It is possible to ignore the error and continue running the Virtual Machine. If I do so, nothing happens any more in the Virtual Client. Ubuntu freezes on the Bootsplash with the text "Waking up. [...]". I shut it down by killing the window with the "X" and tell VB to should power off the machine. (If I rerun the situation, there is no error message by VB anymore, the VB Client just freezes.) If I boot again after that I get the same situation like I described before. Error message via "!" Icon and the possibility to report the bug. If got the time, I'll install a Ubuntu 8.10 and/or 8.04, to check how global this problem is. I also have a debian lenny installation in that VB Server, which is cosign a very similar problem. ** Attachment added: "VirtualBox_Ubuntu 9.04-2009-02-23-14-11-35.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/23005454/VirtualBox_Ubuntu%209.04-2009-02-23-14-11-35.log -- [innotek GmbH VirtualBox] hibernate/resume problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331261 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
