I can’t use a blank xorg.conf in any practical manner because: 1. Bugs in the intel driver prevent my VGA monitor from having its DDC information read properly 2. Bugs in the intel driver cause a third monitor device to appear that commingles with the VGA device 3. Virtual display size needs to be set manually since the default values are too small for my monitor placement (2048×2048) 4. Bugs in the KDE monitor configuration panel do not allow monitor positioning to be set from there (this may be fixed in KDE 4.2; I have not tried it because using the configuration panel in the past has caused the hardware to get in a bad state where it sends bad signals and I have to reboot to get video output again)
