I've gone through that wiki page and ensured the fglrx is completely
removed (I'm pretty sure it was anyway, I had already done something
very similar). The only instances of 'fglrx' from 'locate' are files
that are provided by other packages -- the following packages, to be
complete:

app-install-data
x11-common
jockey-common

I have no xorg.conf (it was minimal, and I deleted it just to be sure).

Output of lspci -vv is attached, and Xorg.0.log for radeon and radeonhd
drivers.

With the radeon driver, I noticed that log contains these lines:

[ 2.282963] (WW) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled
[ 2.282982] (EE) RADEON(0): Acceleration initialization failed
[ 2.283003] (II) RADEON(0): Acceleration disabled

There is also this:

[ 1.261052] (--) RADEON(0): Chipset: "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650" (ChipID =
0x9591)
[ 1.261071] (WW) RADEON(0): R600 support is mostly incomplete and very
experimental

I have found someone else reporting similar problems with Jaunty and the same
graphics card: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6772747

(Note that I did not have any problems with Intrepid)
