Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: udev
After upgrading 9.04 to today's fixes (23-Feb-09, 10:00), the system no longer
boots. During startup the system writes out messages like:
.....
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sda (6357)
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sda/sda2
(6556)
......
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sda (9109)
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sda/sda2
(9108)
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sda/sda2
(9094)
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host2/target2:0:0/2:0:0:0/block/sda/sda2
(9093)
.....
I had it run for two hours and it does not end.
Booting into the old kernel (vmlinuz-2.6.28-6-generic) starts with the
same behavior, but after a few hundred of these messages the startup
continues. Allthought the startup continues and I can eventually log
in, It appears that udevd continues in the background with heavy disk
activities and between 20% and 80% CPU time usage. "/etc/init.d/udev
stop" stops these activities.
If nobody else has this issue, it may be a problem with my Volume Group.
However, I can boot into the LiveCD and after installing lvm2 the
logical volumes show up fine and can be mounted.
Regards,
Werner
