This information is indeed wrong. I'm updating the answer now. The 'nv' driver is maintained by an nvidia employee, and is generally fairly feature-poor (not much acceleration, no 3d, poor dual-head, etc). The nouveau driver is a community project that aims to provide a feature-complete open-source driver, and has no nvidia backing.
