My understanding is that the SVG support is provided by Firefox itself since version 1.5. The fact that we require a plugin to make it work now and the fact that there is no plugin for Firefox for SVG is all originating from the fact that the "native" SVG support seems to be broken. To me, it is indeed a firefox issue.
