If those who are affected by this issue could confirm whether they have
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package installed with the command below:
dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
If it is not installed then it should be installed with, the system
rebooted and retested:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
