I did find a link to temporarily fix to my problem. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=451781 This allows me to manually adjust the brightness by clicking an applet on the top panel. However, it still doesn't work with the built-in Gnome Power Manager. I was wondering if you could integrate this information in to the patch, so it can run from the power manager. The FN keys don't recognize the brightness applet; the only FN keys that work are + - , / The other buttons do random things or don't work at all. I once upgraded to 8.04 (and later downgraded back to 7.10 due to graphics card issues) and the FN keys in 8.04 recognized the brightness applet, but still didn't adjust the brightness.
