Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Running Jaunty, updated daily.

Today, I've found that after the following specific sequence of actions,
compiz consistently exits, and metacity starts in its place:

 * Right click update-notifier icon (I have auto_launch disabled) (temporarily
downgrade some small package to make it show if you don't have pending updates
anyway)
 * Choose "Install all updates"
 * Wait for the resulting synaptic "Untitled window" to open
 * If the window appears completely behind all other windows, compiz doesn't
die immediately.
 * If the window appears visible, or you click or hover over its taskbar
button, compiz dies.
