As per the answer I was given on
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/62114 ,
the only way I currently know to re-enable the channels - on jaunty anyway - is
to get this working was to compile iw from source and manually pass the country
code. The only version of iw that i could see within the existing repositories
(as part of aircrack-ng) is out of date, does not appear to report a version
and silently ignores the same request to change regulatory domain.

Shouldn't the appropriate location code be entered from the system country
settings at install time (or whenever they are changed) and passed through to
the driver?
I'm not technical enough to understand how the new setup is meant to work, but
the problem is that these are relatively new cards and this is only going to
result in more support requests in the future as these Intel cards hit the
mainstream and come into contact with lay users like myself - at least until
NetworkManager catches up to having a country selector. The wpa_supplicant
method of changing requires v 0.6.7 which is not yet available through Jaunty.

If this should be raised as a separate bug/request - then I defer to
your judgment.
