I'm having this same problem using the fully updated alpha Ubuntu 9.04 -
the Jaunty Jackalope. I'm printing to a print server. I can print a test
page, printing from other applications pop up the "can't promp for
authorization" message. Following mannheim's post and editing
/etc/cups/printers.conf...

sudo gedit /etc/cups/printers.conf

...and commenting out the line AuthInfoRequired username,password...

# AuthInfoRequired username,password

...worked, but this is a real pain. Does anyone have any idea when this
will be fixed?
