** Description changed:

  Hi!

- I am running Ubuntu 8.10 alpha, fully updated as at today. Three times
+ I am running Ubuntu 9.04 alpha, fully updated as at today. Three times
today, my machine has frozen completely, and have had to do a hard
reset. I do not know what package/component is to blame, so I will give
a description of the circumstances; but first, a description of my
  machine:

  It's a Gateway M-6820 laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5750; ATI Mobility
Radeon HD 2600; ...). In lieu of a long description of the machine, I
have attached the output of lshw, lspci -vvmm and a dmesg run right
  after booting.

The machine has 3 partitions, all of which have been converted to ext4
  (tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/yourfilesystem, followed by
a fsck) and are mounted as ext4. Two of the partions (home and a storage
folder are mounted "defaults." Root is mounted "relatime,errors=remount-
ro". This is not a clean install of Jaunty - the machine started with
Intrepid Alpha 5 when it was new, and has been progressively upgraded,
through the stable intrepid and not to the Jaunty alphas.

The circumstances: I run Windows XP Virtual machines in Virtualbox
2.1.4. My Virtualbox is not the virtualbox-ose of the Ubuntu repos, but
a .deb from downloads.virtualbox.org. Virtualbox has been working fine
for months. In the last fortnight (the period in which I have been
running Jaunty alpha), I have had this specific version and it has
continued to work fine. Over the last few days, I have noticed that when
I am doing a large file copy (via the KDE4 tools) AND simultaneously
running a Virtualbox machine, the machine freezes up halfway through the
copy. That does not happen when I copy via the commandline tools. I am
not sure about the significance of a running Virtualbox; it just happens
to be on and in use when this bug bites me.

Let me also describe another "freeze" situation that's occuring on this
machine (already reported as an independent bug): Suspend. The machine
suspends fine. When I wake it up, it wakes up, resumes the desktop
(including picking up the song that was playing right where it stopped
and displaying the desktop) THEN freezes after a few seconds. My
Xorg.conf is empty (i.e. autoconfigured display).

I will be happy to provide any more info that is needed to figure this
  out.

  Best Regards,
  Daniel Nyaga
