I just tried with an up-to-date Jaunty installation.
The memory leak bug seems to be gone. gvfsd-http doesn't grow to sizes of 
several hundred MBs anymore.

Another oddity remains, though:
Rhythmbox downloads all podcasts successfully (the files are complete and I 
also get to see a shiny new notify-osd message about the finished download), 
but Rhythmbox itself lists the podcasts with status "Failed".
