Hello, I seem to be having the same problem. Since approximately a week, the sound does not work for all movies I play using FF. Today I had time to examine the problem, and Totem is not detecting my sound: Volume up and volume down do not function and playing mp3s gives no sound, although visualisation do show.
In contrast, Rhythmbox plays my music as usual. I am using a Fujitsu Amilo Li notebook using Atheros Wifi and ATI AMD graphics drivers.
