I was adding games through add/remove programs.  Then I decided to add the 
driver for my video card ATI Radeon 9200 because a game froze on me.  That is 
when it started saying that.  I think the ATI Catalyst Center had something to 
do with not being able to run another package manager.  Had all kinds of 
problems so I just formatted and reinstalled which worked for me.  It runs 
great so far.  I like Ubuntu to much to just do away with it over a driver.  
Seriously windows is more of a headache with installing drivers than Ubuntu 
ever thought about being.
