sorry for replying late (i moved house and have no internet now) I am using pop (IN) and smtp (OUT) - no IMAP.
I have two user accounts on Ubuntu, and i use Thunderbird on both (different email accounts) The problem only occures on on one account which has thousands of emails saved. In the other account thunderbird is all normal.
