Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-launchpad-integration

While upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 alpha 5, ubuntu-desktop failed to
upgrade.

After investigation, it appeared that python-launchpad-integration (a
dependency of ubuntu-desktop) checks for python < 2.6:

arn...@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install python-launchpad-integration
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  python-launchpad-integration: Depends: python (< 2.6) but 2.6.1-0ubuntu1 is
to be installed
E: Broken packages

After a check in Synaptic, both Python 2.5 and 2.6 packages are
installed on my system. Here is the python information in aptitude:

arn...@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache policy python
python:
  Installed: 2.6.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.6.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.6.1-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://mirror.cc.columbia.edu jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

arn...@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache policy python2.5
python2.5:
  Installed: 2.5.4-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.5.4-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.5.4-1ubuntu2 0
        500 http://mirror.cc.columbia.edu jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Any idea ?
