Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub-pc

Trying to install grub-pc onto Ubuntu 8.10, with the root partition mounted
from a software (md(4)) RAID1
yields (I've translated some messages back from German to English):

Configuring grub-pc (1.96+20080512-1ubuntu2) ...
Generating core.img
grub-probe: error: Unknown kind of RAID device `/dev/md/0'
Auto-detection of a filesystem module failed.
Please specify the module with the option `--modules' explicitly.
dpkg: Error while processing grub-pc (--configure):
 Sub-process post-installation script returned error value 1

I'm a bit irritated why it attempts /dev/md/0 in the first place, since
the root is mounted by UUID and results in /dev/md0:

# cat /etc/fstab
UUID=3b733857-b191-4d8a-8a09-fbf79907bdda       /               ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro,relatime 0 1
[...]
# mount
/dev/md0 on / type ext3 (rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro)
[...]
