Hi Michael, I am not sure which "state" you mean, at least I didn't get install/update problems lately, but not all parts of the system work very well (for example, sound device can sometimes not be found, shutdown hangs every now and then).
My problems began after upgrading to 8.10, dpkg didn't work at all and I was unable to install or update any package. "sudo dpkg --configure -a" gave exactly the error Geoff reported in his previous eMail: dpkg: ../../src/packages.c:221: process_queue: Assertion `dependtry <= 4' failed. I searched the internet how to solve the problem and I found that removing package "gxine" solves the problem! But there were some crashes afterwards, one of them is this one.
