Still a few issues... I think the thing to remember is that my laptop is fairly modern - it has no IDE interfaces (only serial ATA) which it seems can often confuse Linux kernels. One major issue I haven't been able to resolve is that DMA is not automatically detected or enabled for my DVD drive: /dev/dvd: IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit) unmaskirq = 0 (off) using_dma = 0 (off) keepsettings = 0 (off) readonly = 0 (off) readahead = 256 (on) HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Also in my own purely unscientific tests, it is my view that Linux runs my laptop considerably hotter than does Windows (even when idle) which may have something to do with an incompatible power management set up. (Perhaps it takes up more CPU cycles than does Windows - or doesn't run the fan often or efficiently enough?) -- Multiple Dmesg Errors When using Feisty Fawn https://launchpad.net/bugs/75969 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
