ath5k is the open source driver supplied with the linux kernel. The
option of installing the old ath_pci driver is not a great one - it is
mostly unsupported upstream and essential stuff like suspend/resume is
broken. Installing ndiswrapper and the Window drivers which is mentioned
in the ubuntuforums page that you linked to isn't a great option either.

This bug report does not merely summarise the other bugs - this report
provides clear information on actual testing that has been carried out,
and the information that there are already changes upstream that provide
validated improvements.

The dupe bugs may not actually be dupes - they looked similar, but if
updating to the latest open source driver doesn't help your situation,
then you may have a completely different problem. In that case, feel
free to un-dupe the other bug report.
