Have u checked the settings in /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf? usbmount is
the package responsible for usb automount.

/etc/udev/rules.d/62-usbmount.rules calls /usr/share/usbmount/usbmount
to mount usb devices.

It took me ages to find out that it will only mount ext2 and ext3 filesystem 
which is the default configuration.
After I have added 'vfat' into FILESYSTEMS field, the automount of usb pen 
drive worked flawlessly.
