This is a bug in the application that you're using to edit the files.
It'd be great if you could report it there.

Relying on this is probably a bad idea. At least my version of Firefox
deletes these files as soon as it terminates. On the other hand, files
in /tmp are also not guaranteed to be deleted upon reboot.
