It takes up space on the install cd that could be used for other
purposes.   A Palm Pilot is not an essential piece of your computer's
hardware. It's not even part off the computer.  This really doesn't need
to be in the default install, just available.  The example I gave in
Ubuntu Forums is that currently if you need a VPN client to get online,
you're out of luck because you'd need to get online to get the VPN
client. Not having a VPN client in those situations is the same as not
having a driver for your NIC.
