Accented letters cannot be written on non-gnome apps.
Spanish layout uses a two-key press in order to write an accented letter
(i.e. you click ´ and then a in order to write á).
Steps to follow:
-Install Konqueror from the repositories (or download Opera from it's web)
-Go to System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layouts and add "Spain". Click on Layout
Options and enable a layout switching that works for you (standard is clicking
both alts but that didn't work for me, so I chose clicking both shifts).
-Go to any application (e.g. gedit), switch to spanish layout, and write an
accented letter, such as á.
-Go to Konqueror and try to do that, it will not let you, you will write ´a
If you install complex writing (scim) and add spanish to it, you will be
able to write accented letters, as long as you use the scim
"Spanish/European" layout, and not the linux default.
The first two comments were added before I found out this problem was
not scim related.
