Public bug reported:

I'm not sure what package to file this bug under.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open totem on a freshly installed system
2. Select youtube
3. type in linux
4. double click on any of the videos
5. install the codecs it recommends
6. Wait for the video playback to start
7. goto Add/Remove.. and type in ubutnu-restricted-extras
8. Watch as it fails to install
9. Try sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
10. If failed for charlie-tca but I've not tested
11. Goto synaptic
12. search for ubuntu-restricted-extras
13. Now it installs by removing libavcodec52 and libavutils49
14. It then installs libavcodec-unstripped-52 and libavutils-unstripped-49

The reason for not adding a package is I'm not sure what is at fault.

The only thing a new user will see is that the commands they are likely
to be told to use don't work.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
