My apologies for the delay in responding.

Before trying your suggestion, the following observations may be of
interest:
1) my initial flash installation was done from the Linux link in the
flash section of the firefox plugins page.
2) I did not install flash as root user (nor did I use sudo); I
installed is under my own usernams.
3) I did *not* reboot or re-start X after initially installing flash.
4) As soon as firefox crashed, I proceeded directly to the bug reporting
process as recommended by firefox.
5) Upon receiving your email, I first (without uninstalling flash)
returned to the http://adobe.com/flashplugin page (the one that had
"crashed firefox". This time, firefox did *not* crash!
6) I then went to the page that I had originally been trying to access,
and which had originally advised me to install flash.
http://www.gotuit.com/gtv/index.html?c=music&p=83833&s=1466526
I got exactly the same page as I had gotten before I had installed
flash. It advised me that I needed to install flash (bear in mind that
I *had* installed flash at this point). The icon that the page referred
to *still* was not displayed.

7) At this point I felt it was safe to assume that uninstalling flash
and returning to the adobe flashplayer page would not cause a crash
either. Nevertheless, I proceeded to uninstall the flashplayer plug-in
accorting to the instructions in the readme file within the flashplayer
installation folder. An interesting observation is that those
instructions refer to the removal of *three* files, but only two of them
existed in the .mozilla/plugins folder. The file that was not present
was one named x-shockwave-flash.desktop. I deleted the other two files
(libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt).

8) I then re-started firefox and returned to the adobe flashplayer page.
As predicted, firefox did *not* crash.

9) I then repeated the flashplayer install.

10) I once again started firefox and navigated to the adobe flashplayer
page. This time it did *not* crash firefox.

11) Finally, I re-navigated to the gotuit page referenced earlier in
(6), but I got the same result as I had previously (in (6.)

12) Final observations: The flashplayer installation instructions
indicate that I can verify the flashplayer plugin installation by
launching Mozilla and choosing Help > About Plug-ins from the browser
menu. In firefox, there is no "About plug-ins" option in the help menu.
Also, I notice that the instructions reference "Mozilla" as opposed to
"Firefox". Further, the installation program had advised me that two
additional fonts needed to be installed (I don't recall their names). I
"assume" (bad idea) that those fonts would be installed by the
flashplayer installation program, since the instructions gave no
additional instructions for doing so separately. I also notice that by
default, pop-ups are disabled in my firefox installation.

All of the above took place on my Ubuntu Edgy Eft installation. Out of
curiosity, I went to my windoze(2000) system (yuck!!!) and launched
firefox on that system (which already has the flashplayer plugin
installed). That system has no problem with either the adobe
flashplayer page *or* the gotuit page -- they both work properly.

I totally understand if, at this point, you deem this issue to be too
obscure or unrepeatable or otherwise not worth your time to pursue. On
the other hand, I feel very supportive of the open source community
development paradigm. My systems exist for the purpose of educating
myself; and I would be more than happy to conduct any further
experiments or research that you feel might be of potential benefit.
Even in the unlikely event that my systems get trashed and I need to
re-install from scratch, that would be no problem at all for me. And I
would consider it my priviledge to be able to contribute to the extent
of my meager ability to the open source/ open standards effort.

Thank you very much for your time and interest.

Best regards,
Steve Gerstung
