** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: debian-installer

- Sorry for just pasting irc-log, but I'm in a real hurry.. Feel free to
- edit :)
+ I installed kubuntu alpha5 from alternative CD on my laptop. MBR
+ contained TrueCrypt bootloader and /dev/sda1 contains encrypted Windows
+ XP installation. I decided to do a fully encrypted installation and
+ created /boot on /dev/sda2 and crypto+lvm on /dev/sda5 containin root +
+ swap. Installation proceeded after partitioning, but when it was time to
+ install GRUB the installer didn't ask where I want it to be installed
+ and it didn't detect my existing Windows installation. This resulted in
+ GRUB being installed on MBR and overwriting my TC bootloader.

- #ubuntu+1:
- (22:04:44) Wellark: ugh.. I just installed kubuntu aplha5 from alternative CD
on my laptop
- (22:05:30) Wellark: it's kinda funny as I'm quite sure I didn't see any place
to specify where to install GRUB
- (22:06:06) Wellark: my MBR _had_ TrueCrypt bootloader for my Windows and
well.. it's gone :/
- (22:06:37) Wellark: luckily I have TC recovery CD so I should be able to
restore the MBR
- (22:08:26) Wellark: I will try again on spare partition and pay extra
attention.. Does anyone remember where the grup install location could be
changed?
- (22:10:51) platius: Wellark; as I remember their is an "advanced" button
when the install syas it is about toformat the partitions
- (22:10:58) platius: there
- (22:11:20) Wellark: ok. I just might have missed it, but I'll try again
- (22:11:52) platius: Wellark; not too intuitive
- (22:21:58) Wellark: negative.. manual partitioner didn't have anything
related to grub
- (22:40:36) Wellark: ok. after the software installation came "is your system
clock in UTC" and then "Installation is done"
- (22:43:32) Wellark: hmm.. pressing "go back" on the last page gives me the
list of different installation stages.. there's "Install the Grub bootloader
on a hard disk" right after "select and install software"
- (22:43:57) Wellark: selecting that just installs grub on MBR, no questions
asked
- (22:45:44) Wellark: there's a message "searching other operating systems" and
it doesn't seem to find any even though there's windows XP installed (crypted
with truecrypt) on /dev/sda1 and another kubuntu installation has it's /boot on
/dev/sda2
- (22:47:09) Wellark: I'm thinking the installer fails to find the other OS'
and thinks it's perfectly OK to install to the MBR X|
+ I had left some extra space to the hard drive so that I could do a
+ second install, boot in /dev/sda3, crypto+lvm root and swap in
+ /dev/sda6. On second install the installer didn't recognize Windows and
+ not even earlier installed Kubuntu.
