Hello Michael... This is the first time I have been contacted (I am quite happy that you contacted me).
Here's what I did. I got tired of messing around with the problem, so I ordered a disk w/ 8.10. I backed up my files, and re-installed. The only thing. I have this Belkin F5D7051 wireless USB Network adapter, and Ubuntu won't boot when that's plugged in, interestingly enough. It may or may not work after after startup is complete. I've messed around with this along time too... seen a lot of headaches on the web... and I may just part with the stick altogether and get a different one. I do want to thank you for contacting me. Wow... it's amazing.
