I think Bryan is into something.  If I understood correctly, in past
versions, you could hide the notes by clicking the desktop background;
as of 2.25.x, it changed to hide by clicking the applet (clicking the
applet now toggle the notes).  But Ubuntu Intrepid shipped with 2.24,
which I guess is lost in transition; it doesn't hide by clicking the
background, nor clicking the applet.  I backported 2.25 to Intrepid and
it works.

Also, I believe the documentation should be updated.
