Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: util-linux
The hostname init script performs a whole bunch of tests, some of them
invalid (e.g. hostname always returns "(none)" not "" if there isn't one
set).
If the hostname binary itself were patched to do the equivalent, it'd
save us several fork/exec/grep type operations and then we could set the
hostname with a single call (and since there's no blocking requirement
from it, do it in parallel with the rest of the init scripts)
