I found a page that tells how to connect to my University's network using NM 0.7. Apparently, major architectural changes between 0.6 and 0.7 make the old method completely inapplicable, but there's a method that works for 0.7. I am currently on break, so I will try this on Monday, when I return to the University. If it works, I will leave this bug as invalid.
