I'll run the command when I get back home tonight. But I guess I may have been premature assigning this on compiz. Yesterday evening I installed KDE4.2 to test if Kwin was also affected and it shows the exact same issue. So the cause must be found elsewhere (Xorg, kernel, ...), but I have no idea where as no errors or warnings are being logged.
