Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug
52239, so it is being marked as such.
The package rgtk2 is not for a gnome interface to R, but for writing programs
with gtk widgets in R. The gnome GUI is no longer supported and only available
at a separate package on CRAN (that actually seems to fail to install for me
:-( ).
Unfortunately bug 52239 (and the original Debian bug) has been marked as
close - but I think this is at least a bug in the documentation (e.g.
gnome is still mentioned in the man page) and there should never be an
error message like that.... :-/
