When I want to set the screen resolution to 1024x768, the computer seizes. It
first goes to a black screen and then I get a screen which is set to the new
resolution. I get a screen without panels but everything else is frozen
including the mouse. I first did an upgrade from kubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. Here I
noticed the problem. In 8.04 I had no problem with adjusting the resolution.
After this I made a fresh install of 8.10. Here I encountered the same problem.
To find out if my video card was faulty, I tried other ones. 2 with 128mb of
memory and one of 256mb memory. With all I encountered the same problem. The
only way to be able to use the computer again was by shutting it down the hard
way and restarting it. What I als noticed is when the computer seized up and I
restarted it. The computer seizes up immediately, without getting a chance to
change the resolution. While restarting it I also see the last screen (crashed)
when I get the flash screen and it goes to the fourth symbol (desktop).
I am using kubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386
I hope you can help me as the new version of kubuntu looks good
