** Description changed: Binary package hint: cups I'm sitting here looking at a Canon Pixus 550i (a model only sold in Japan, as far as I know). It needs an out-of-ubuntu driver to make it work: http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~takushi/ Everything was printing fine until about ten days ago when printing would stop with "child process aborted". I found the following lines in the cups error log E [10/Mar/2009:10:01:47 +0900] [Job 1176] child process aborted E [10/Mar/2009:10:01:47 +0900] PID 15641 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonbj) stopped with status 1! E [10/Mar/2009:10:01:47 +0900] [Job 1176] Job stopped due to filter errors. I attach the information collected from ubuntu-bug as well as the cups error log (I changed logging to debug beforehand, so it is very detailed). Let me know if there is any further information I can provide you with. + + I read through https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems but it + did not solve my problem. Here are a few things I tried unsuccessfully + to resolve this. + + * obvious things like reboot, unplugging computer, etc. + * sudo aa-complain cupsd ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 CupsErrorLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/cups/error_log' DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 Lpstat: device for Brother: /dev/null device for Canon_550i_USB_1: usb://Canon/550i device for Fax: socket://localhost:9900 device for JetDirectBrother: /dev/null device for PDF: cups-pdf:/ Lsusb: Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c01b Logitech, Inc.
