I don't think patching the applications' desktop file is a good idea,
it's rather intrusive and doesn't depend on our sole will (especially
for system-config-printer). What can be done is hiding them in the
xubuntu-specific menu file shipped in xubuntu-default-settings, so
people who still want all these icons in their menu can use a custom
menu file and be happy...

Anyway, we need to clarify these "six ways": afaik, the only one that
matters is system-config-printer (one? of the four upper windows on your
screenshot), as xfprint4 (the two remaining windows at the bottom) is
almost deprecated (mousepad seems to be the only one that requires it).
