I dist-upgraded to 2.6.28.9 and now I can only login with failsafe gnome
session.
Normal login gives

> /etc/X11/Xsession.d/60x11-localhost: 4: Syntax error: Bad fd number

from this bug #340697... and moved the ampersand to the end of the
line...

I found this in my dmesg as related to imps/psmouse reload

[ 33.610209] psmouse.c: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 4

so - still the system thinks it sees a touchpad - and again it wants to
do something with bluetooth which the board does not have :-(

I put the rmmod lsmod sequence in /etc/rc.local - now the ps/2 mouse
works even at the login screen

Any comments whether it is a hal bug or a kernel or a startup script
bug? (VirtualBox-Jaunty runs fine single-cored - real system doesnt
(dual cora = race?)

** Description changed:

  I did a dist-upgrade using update-manager -d, everything went well until I
rebooted and got to the new GDM login window.
That's when my mouse and keyboard froze. I can't move my mouse nor can I
switch to a terminal - it's like it's physically unplugged. I tried both USB
and PS/2 interfaces with no luck and I have to physically power off my box by
pressing the off button for 5+ secs.

I rebooted into a Recovery console and purged GDM and installed KDM -
but still proved unsuccessful since mouse and keyboard remained frozen.
I did the same thing by install installing SLIM but bug still won't let
  me do anything.

This might be an Xorg bug since I've already tried gdm, kdm, and slim. I
can't attach crash logs, etc since my workstation remains unresponsive.
I can access the logs via recovery console, but I don't think I'll be
able to attach them here via Links.
