In the past several days (3 - 4) my display goes dead and my disk-light
is solidly on as though looping. I can't ftp into the failed system
when in this state and the box ignores a hard reset so I'm left to
unplugging. The problem has only occurred while browsing random
Internet pages vi Firefox. Meantime between failures depends on
frequency of browsing. At the moment the failure has occurred twice
this morning when attempting to display the http://www.yahoo.com home
page, but has occurred on 10+ other websites and pages. It has also
failed twice when running a large qooxdoo.org compile in batch and
"might" have started soon after attempting to install a required "Gears"
application (which failed because not compatible with my version of
Firefox) when attempting to run their demo.
This system is kept up-to-date with all current Ubuntu updates
immediately when released via automatic updates. I'm running Ubuntu
Hardy 8.04 (GNOME 2.22.3) on an AMD 64 X2 dual core processor with 2 GB
of memory and 51.2 GB of free disk space. My Kernel is Linux
2.6.24-23-generic. My monitor is a CMV 2210.
