My earlier statement that Jaunty/Jaunty works correctly is incorrect. On my laptop (HP Elitebook 8530w), I have a Synaptics touchpad as well as a joystick.
If I touch the joystick *at all* Synergy will start working as expected. I must have bumped the joystick during my last test.
