UPDATE: I should clarify that I actually mean "/" -- not "root". I'm
clicking on the named "Root" bookmarks that leads to "/" or attempting
to navigate to "/" in the Dolphin browse bar, or simply starting Dolphin
from a command line. Again, it is "/" that cannot be viewed or navigated
to.

Similarly, as I can navigate to "/" and view it if I do "Open as Root",
I can also get there by starting Dolphin as superuser:

sudo dolphin /

It is only when I am running Dolphin as myself that Dolphin crashes on
"/".
