Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. The
issue you describe stems from the fact that sudo is used to access the
root terminal, and there is a short timeout before the authentication
tokens expire. As such I am marking this as a duplicate of bug #35826.

You are correct in pointing out that running untrusted code (ie, the
aforementioned virus) can use avenue this for privilege escalation, but
Ubuntu does not provide protections for users running untrusted
programs. You might consider clamav for virus checking and Apparmor for
protecting specific applications.
