I've had this issue while installing Intrepid x64 - a bit frustrating.
Mostly, it seems that it doesn't pass along the specific error code that LILO
spits out when it has an error. The error it ended up giving me (booted into
rescue mode and then opened a shell in the file system in question) was that
LILO doesn't support RAID5 as a boot partition. Information would have been
much more useful if it was in the installer - I could have gone back and
changed my partition structure without having to re-install.
Not the end of the world, but would make life easier for people who are a bit
new to LILO (like me) and use error codes to learn what works and what doesn't.
