Yeah, this problem with xchat appears from time to time, usually, this
is caused by a bad c-format string usage in a translation.

This affects 8.10 and latest 9.04 development version.

Removing /usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/xchat-gnome.mo allows
you to start it again from the menu, in English, but at least you don't
need to do any 'black magic voodoo' until it's fixed.
