@Bogdan Gribincea While the discussion here has concentrated on rewriting config files, you also report a loss of MySQL databases. What table configuration were you using, and were the underlying files corrupted or reduced to 0 length?
InnoDB is intended to be ACID compliant, and takes care to call fsync at appropriate places.
