Are you using the wireless or are you plugged into the router? Also, would you please post the part of the output titled "network controller" from the following command in terminal?
lspci -v This is likely to end up being more of a question than a bug, I think. It used to be common (and probably still is), but you are right. It is typically either a network setting or a driver issue in my experience.
